Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This lecture deals with the main antagonism in recent philosophical discourse, "the split between Analytic and Continental philosophy", and with attempts to overcome it. Part one is dedicated to the history of Analytic philosophy (from the Vienna Circle to its post-analytic reconfiguration that starts with the "Philosophical Investigations" of Wittgenstein). Part two sketches the development of "Continental Philosophy" from "Sein und Zeit" (Heidegger) via Adorno and the Frankfurt School up to the "deconstructive" texts of Jacques Derrida. The third part is dedicated to Neo-Pragmatism: to a discourse i.e., that is located at the interface of Analytic and Continental thought (Hilary Putnam, Richard Rorty, Robert Brandom).
