Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

"History of Philosophy I" introduces its students to the basic problems, approaches, solutions and thoughts of the so called Philosophy of Ancient Times. The lecture focuses on the fact, that this part of philosophy is not only of historical or personal concerns, but lives on in philosophical questions up until now. Alfred N. Whitehead shows famous evidence fo that, claiming: "The safest general characterization of the European philosophical tradition is that it consists of a series of footnotes to Plato." (Process and Reality)

History of Philosophy I will not only confirm Whitehead's point of view, but show the ongoing relevance of the early questions of philosophy as a whole.
