Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This courses is designed for MA-students and supports them in developing and critically assessing MA-projects resp. prospectuses or eben fully developed theses. By way of presentations (of outlines, prospectuses, chapters) and critical co-presentations as well as discussions in the plenum, questions and problems that arise in the course of drafting, writing, and completing MA-theses will be reflected. Given my expertise, the seminar is most helpful for students working in the ares of phenomenology, political philosophy, social philosophy, and philosophy of religion; it is, however, open for every MA-student who works on or is about to draft an MA-thesis.

Assessment and permitted materials

Continuous presence; active participation (inputs in the discussion; preparation of active feedback (2 co-presentations); written elaboration of a full concept (prospectus) or of some part (chapter, or sub-chapter) of the thesis.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

a.) presentation of a concept, a part (chapter) of a philosophical MA-thesis
b.) two comments on chapters/exposés handed in by other students;
c.) active participation and productive contributions in the forum;
d.) handing in a written version of the results achieved

Grading key (100% = 100 points):
• active participation (two obligatory co-presentations) (30%)
• individual presentation (35%)
• written results (prospectus, chapter, etc.) (35%)

Scale: very good (1): 100-90 points; good (2): 89-80 p; average (3): 79-70 p; sufficient: 69-60 p; insufficient (5): 59-0 p.

Missing the first session without reasonable excuse automatically results in the exclusion from the course. In general, unexcused absence is accepted for a maximum of two times.

This is a continuously assessed course.
