Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This course is part of the entry phase of the MA in Philosophy program. The aim of this course is to introduce students to some core topics in practical philosophy, broadly construed. This course will focus on central topics in moral philosophy. Topics covered include, but are not limited to: moral rights, the moral standing of animals, blame and other reactive attitudes, moral responsibility, the nature of practical reason and reasons to act, as well as topics from the intersection of moral philosophy and epistemology. The course will primarily focus on contemporary readings from the tradition of analytic philosophy, with additional optional readings.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

This seminar has continuous assessment (KU), meaning that there is no final examination and attendance in class is required. (10%)
If you must be absent from class, email me in advance. Do not come to class if you are not feeling well.

The course has three major assignments:

Presentation: Students will briefly present the main ideas of the assigned reading(s). (20%)
Reading response: Students will submit a brief written response to the assigned reading(s). (20%)
Term paper: Students will complete a final term paper on a topic within the scope of the seminar. (50%)
