Continuous assessment of course work

The main goal of the seminar is it to show that the philosophical Taoism gives an original contribution to the philosophical discussion. There is nothing comparable in other philosophical traditions.

Aims, contents and method of the course

Important chapters of the Daodejing will be analyzed and discussed thoroughly. Special attention is directed to the strict rational method of thought. In this way the usual "poetical" access to the text can be rejected.

Assessment and permitted materials

Marks on the basis of the lectures. Lectures in written form are possible.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Important chapters of the Daodejing in German translation.will be reported and commented. These chapters then will be compared with the Chinese text. In this way the text will become more clearly. Knowledge of the Chinese language however is not necessary

Examination topics

Lectures of the participants dealing with the texts. Discussion of the lectures.
