Aims, contents and method of the course

The course discusses classic social contract theories ranging from Hobbes, Locke, Rousseau and Kant to the social contract critique of Karl Marx. By paying close attention to the original texts the various approaches of these different thinkers are to be addressed, compared and reflected in order to isolate those structures that may serve as common foundation of social contract theory.
