Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This course is part of the curriculum for the MA program in Philosophy. The course objective is for students to gain familiarity with, and first hand experience of, various aspects of doing academic research in Philosophy.

In this course,
* Students become familiar with different areas of philosophical research.
* Students become familiar with a variety of philosophical methods.
* Students gain skills in using research tools such as citation tools, libraries, and archives.
* Students learn about “soft” research skills such as communication, time management, and moderating and leading a discussion.
* Students practice presenting philosophical work to an audience of researchers and peers.
* Students practice giving and receiving feedback on their work with an audience of researchers and peers.

NB, the language of teaching is English.

Assessment and permitted materials

This course is a seminar with continuous assessment (there is no final examination).

Attendance in seminar is required, please consult the syllabus for exceptions.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria


For a passing grade, enrolled students must

I. Complete assigned readings for each class session, if any.
II. Complete homework assignments in a timely manner.
III. Complete the participation requirements.
