Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

*** Due to the COVID-19 situation (some) lab excursions will have to be offered in a digital format. At the moment some lab excursions are planned with physical presence, some already in a digital format. Any update about the status of excursions will be communicated via Moodle (where students can also register for the individual labs). ***

During the lab excursions students get to know research questions, topics, approaches and methods of the core disciplines of cognitive science as researched in different labs of the University of Vienna and Medical University of Vienna.

Learning Outcomes:
- Familiarity with individual researchers' questions and approaches
- Insight into the field and scientific culture of the core disciplines of cognitive science
- Insight how a particular way to pose a scientific question is related to the methodology chosen

Assessment and permitted materials

Assessment:
1.) short reflections on each lab excursion (1500-2000 characters/lab) along guiding questions (see Moodle)
2.) Two project proposals for Into Research II projects following the template of the IRII-Learning Contracts: Based on the information you got in the lab you should describe/propose a research project (come up with an idea for a project following the lines of research in this lab, search for literature and write a project plan using the IRII-Learning Contract template).

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

In order to receive a positive grade 6 lab excursions have to be attended, as well as two project proposals have to be graded positive.

assessment criteria
1.) reflections on 6 lab excursions (30 %)
2.) IR II project proposal I (35%)
3.) IR II project proposal II (35%)

Examination topics

During the lab excursions students get to know research questions, topics, approaches and methods of the core disciplines of cognitive science.
