Aims, contents and method of the course

Biophilosophy - Why biology requires its own philosophy / What is life? / The diversity of life / Origin and development of life (evolution) / The development of individual life /Chaos, chance and order / Evolution and progress / The Place of humans in the world / The relation between life and mind / A naturalistic theory of mind / Living and dying / The death of the individual / The estinction of species / The meaning of life / Biophilosophy and "new humanism". -- Relations to different philosophical positions (e. g. naturalism, philosophy of enlightenment, existentialism) will be discussed.
