Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
The course introduces students to a selection of the main problems in moral philosophy from an Anglo-American perspective. Topics to be discussed are: the status and nature of ethical claims, varieties of consequentialism, the concept of rights, moral relativism and deontological foundationalism.
Assessment and permitted materials
In order to obtain a Zeugnis students have to meet 3 requirements: (i) at least some participation in class; (ii) a short assignment to be completed between the preliminary session in October and the block-seminar in December; the assignment consists in answering three questions about the set texts; (iii) giving a presentation or submitting an essay.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Examination topics
In the last years the format of having one intense week of alternating student presentations, debates, and coffee breaks has proven highly successful both in terms of student satisfaction and the standard of the debate.
