Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

In this seminar, we will address fundamental questions about the meaning of quantum mechanics. More specifically, we will critically consider views according to which terms like “quantum states” and “quantum observables” are meaningful in virtue of their representation of physical reality, as well as views according to which such terms are meaningful in virtue of the rules or axioms of the theory or in virtue of the general principles from which these axioms can be derived.

Assessment and permitted materials

This is a lecture-based seminar, with plenty of time for class discussion.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Active participation in discussion (35%) and a term paper on a topic chosen in consultation with the instructor (65%). Detailed instructions for writing your paper will be given in the seminar.

By registering for this course, you agree that the automated plagiarism checking software Turnitin will check all written submissions made by you in Moodle.

All the evaluation components above are required for successfully completing this course. Only one unexcused absence is permitted.

Grading scale:
100-90 pts -- very good
