Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This course will be an introduction to the Feminist ethics of Audre Lorde. It will involve a close reading of selections from Sister Outsider & Dream of Europe : Selected Seminars and Interviews : 1984-1992. We will close read the texts to understand the ethical questions that are asked in it and emerge from it. It provides a basic introduction to ethical criticisms of traditional white-normative, Eurocentric research. West-centric universalism and hegemony in knowledge production has led to the exclusion and subjugation of other forms of knowledge and a wide array of ethical problems. With the help of the readings, we will be understanding different ethical concerns with traditional theorizing and then discuss some alternatives to the same.

The course will be held in English. In case a student is limited by language, media competence or a learning difficulty, changes can be made to the method and assessments on a case-by-case basis. To take those needs and further questions into account, you can write to the instructor and request a meeting. The structure, resources, weekly plan, readings and assignment submissions will be made available on Moodle.
