Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Since the 1970s there is a variety of studies that address questions about race and racism from a variety of disciplinary and conceptual perspectives. In this seminar the focus is on philosophical perspectives and on theories of culture that take the postcolonial experience into account. Thus in the foreground will be questions about the interplay of: racism, enlightenment philosophy, and modernity; racism, eurocentrism, and western science; biological racism and "racism without races"; race, class, and gender; and, last but not least, problems of travelling theories about race
