Aims, contents and method of the course

Critical engagement with Saul Kripke's interpretation of Wittgenstein's rule-following considerations.

Assessment and permitted materials

Relevant for the assessment: regular attendance, active participation in discussions, presentation, a 15-20 page essay on a topic related to the course.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

A good understanding of Kripke's "Wittgenstein on Rules and Private Language", and related writings by Wittgenstein; familiarity with the secondary literature.

Examination topics

Seminar with obligatory attendance, detailed engagement with texts, student presentations, discussions.
