Aims, contents and method of the course

The grounding of Kant’s moral philosophy in natural philosophy or “Naturphilosophie” led to Schelling’s speculations in “On Human Freedom”. With a broad conceptual design Schelling re-theologizes the ontological myth of creation of human freedom in a “root independent of God”, which is, however, set in God: the ground in God. Through this, on the grounds of German Idealism Schelling anticipated the main issue in existential philosophy. Our analysis will connect here to Kierkegaard and Heidegger.
Grading based on: regular participation, presentation, discussion and essay.
Introductory Text: Otfried Höffe, Annemarie Pieper:F. W. J. Schelling, Über das Wesen der menschlichen Freiheit.Berlin 1995.
