Aims, contents and method of the course

The University Council: Inclusive university
In 2024, the Wiener Festwochen founded the Council of the Republic under the slogan “We owe the world a revolution” to define the framework of the Wiener Festwochen. Among the topics discussed here were how to deal with cancule culture, discrimination, the participation of young people or people with poor reading and text comprehension skills and how to deal with issues of sustainability. Marlene Engelhorn also convened the “Good Council” in 2024 to decide how M. Engelhorn's 25 million inheritance should be distributed. Beyond their mandate, both councils are characterized by the fact that democracy is lived and learned in them. Based on these role models, the fictitious council of the university (Department of education) will be convened in this seminar. The seminar participants are the council members, who discuss and vote on topics that are needed for an inclusive university (inclusive educational science) in five units each. There is one expert group per unit, which writes a proposal on a topic to be discussed and voted on. The group of experts may also invite external experts or present different positions on the topic themselves. At the end of this seminar, there is a jointly written final manifesto.

Possible Topics: Discrimination sensitivity, sustainability, solidarity instead of excellence & competition, educational equity, Eurocentrism/internationality, political/neutral, participation instead of hierarchies, critical thinking instead of skills and competencies, trauma/triggers, canon
