Anwesenheit bei der Vorbesprechung ist verpflichtend.
Attendance of the first session on October 18th 2013 is mandatory.
Please note that this course will be held in English.
This course will be held together with Dr. Siriparn Sriwanyong from Srinakharinwirot University in Bangkok, Thailand.
- On the 6th of December 2013 we will visit a Thai temple in Vienna.
Meeting point at Kohlgasse 41 at 3pm.
After returning to Seminarraum 6 at Sensengasse 3a we will continue the seminar at around 5.30pm.

Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Religion has an impact on how disability is perceived in many, if not all, cultural contexts.
This course focuses on the exploration of how and why religion plays such a crucial role and how it needs to be considered when doing research in certain fields.

Assessment and permitted materials

1. Attendance and active participation during the course
2. Handing in five written assignments in time
3. Seminararbeit (written thesis)

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

This course aims at exploring culture-specific factors that affect the societal perception of disabilities. In that regard we will focus on religion, especially Theravada Buddhism.

Examination topics

Varied and in accordance with students' expectations.
Reading texts, group discussions, theoretical inputs, etc.
