The aim of the study programme is to aquire the ability to carry out independent scientific work and to analyse problems independently, as well as knowledge of the specifics, limits, terminology and teaching opinions of educational science.
The seminar teaches the ability to independently develop a scientifically founded position on a teaching opinion in educational science using a text-analytical method. In the process, the particularities and limits of educational science will also be discussed.

Assessment and permitted materials

- Analysis of agreed (essentially self-chosen) texts
- Didactically sound implementation of a seminar unit on a text
- Collegial comments on the seminar paper
- Seminar paper

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Prerequisites for the successful completion of the course are regular attendance (max. 2 missed appointments), the selection and analysis of texts, an introductory presentation on a selected text as well as the didactic design of the following seminar session, a written interpretation of the selected text and collegial commentary on the texts by colleagues. The presentation and interpretation should express a methodically developed understanding of the theory. The instructor reserves the right to discuss the submitted papers. In case of plagiarism the whole course is considered plagiarized.

Examination topics

Since Humboldt, education in German-speaking pedagogy has been defined as what people develop when they switch between languages. The reason for this is the translation problem: one language cannot simply be translated into another because a great many words have no meaningful equivalent in another language: the cultural contexts are different. Switching between such contexts is what constitutes education. This problem is currently being discussed with the concept of transformation. The seminar therefore focuses on the concept of transformation. Particular emphasis is placed on the fact that languages are media and that the change between languages (which also includes the languages of film, computer games, comics, photography, etc.) is relevant to media education.

Reading list

The literature is chosen by the students themselves.
