This course aims to familiarize students with the main themes and methods in the history of education. Why study the history of education? And how can it be done?Contents:
This lecture course introduces students to crucial themes and methods in the history of education:
-prosopography and institutional history
-the history of ideas
-quantitative history
-national histories of education
-social theory and the history of education
-schooling and economic history
-global histories of education.Method:
These themes will be explored by focusing on key texts in the historiography of education and by discussing current challenges in the field.
