Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The aim of this seminar is to map actual transformations within study practices at the university. The background is formed by actual trends and developments in higher education policy that seek to intensify linkages between university education and society (e.g., Bologna-process, third mission-policies). Sociologists of higher education have pinpointed and criticized the changes the university as a social institution has underwent in this process. In this seminar, transformations that have taken place in the actual educational practice of the university will be mapped. More specifically, based on collective mapping exercises, students will investigate the field of higher education policy and practice and analyze the educational dynamics of ‘new’ study practices that aim to create new connections between university actors and social actors (e.g., problem-based learning, project work, living labs, transdisciplinary learning, service learning, etc.). Students will pay attention both to the policy discourses that promote such initiatives and to the dynamics of these practices.
