Reading requirements will be provided in German and/or English.Being able to conduct research is one of the ultimate goals of an academic education. Knowing theoretical paradigms and your stance within them is at the base of how your research will be conducted and understood.
This seminar will discuss different major theoretical paradigms from the different scientific disciplines (such as philosophy, psychology, sociology...) which have influenced education and research. The main discussions will concern how different prominent theorists in the disciplines conceived of the generation of reality and knowledge and what implications result from this for pedagogical questions.
The focus of the course is accordingly on the analysis and comparison of the relevance of these (reference) theories for the discipline of educational science and their influence on their shape. This should not only give an insight into the historical and epistemological development of the disciplinary character of educational science, but also contribute to an understanding of the interdisciplinary theoretical differences in the subject.Besides learning about different paradigms relevant to education research, English is a very important language to the international academic world. This seminar will be providing a great opportunity for students to practice reading, writing, and discussing in languages they will need as they continue further in academia.
