Aims, contents and method of the course

Pädagogik unterstellt idealiter eine Ermöglichung von Chancengleichheit und Demokratisierung verantwortungsvoller Subjekte durch Bewusstseinsbildung. Teilhabe wird so zu einem zentralen Anliegen an die Entwicklung einer spätmodernen Gesellschaft. Geförderte Vielfalt und Aufhebung sozialer Differenzen stehen im Gegensatz zu Tendenzen von Vereinheitlichung von Ausbildungen. Wie ist Bildung trotz identifizierbarer sozialer Ungleichheit zu behaupten?
Das Seminar nimmt sich um derartige Themen an, in denen die Spannung zwischen gesellschaftlicher Normierung und sozialer Ungleichheit in bildungsrelevanter Hinsicht sichtbar wird.

Education ideally supposes an enabling of equality of chances and democratization of responsible persons via rising of consciousness and shaping minds. Participation becomes a crucial issue in development of a postmodern society. The concern to promote plurality and to level social differences is in a contrast to any tendency of unification of formation. How is education - Bildung being claimed in spite of social inequality?
In class we deal with these topics and issues. There clearly is the tension between standardization and social inequality concerning education to be identified.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Lernziele:
Beurteilung von Bildungsbenachteiligungen auf empirischer Grundlage, Kennenlernen des Capability approach (Nussbaum versus Sen), abwägendes Urteilen, Reflexionen der Debatten um die 'Überflüssigen' differenzieren können, Ermittlung von Zusammenhängen zwischen Ausbildung und Chancen am Arbeitsmarkt, Gesundheit und Wohlbefinden in ausgewählten Beispielen. Vor- und Nachteile von Parentokratien identifizieren können.

Learning outcomes:
Assessment of evidence based discrimination in education, To get a sound understanding of the 'capability approach', (Nussbaum vs. Sen), to make qualified judgments in the discourse of the 'wasted outcast' (Bauman), to be able to discuss the relation between education and chances in the labor market, health and welfare, to identify and evaluate pros and cons of parentocratic systems, etc.
