Aims, contents and method of the course

Models of Disability

The goal of this course is to sensibilize students for different models of disabilities and the implications different models have on consultation, diagnostics, rehabilitation and therapy.

Through online research students have to find relevant literature for the course topic in a first attemt by themselves. Students will do literature research focussed on a certain model of disability. By elaborating arguments for that model, the different groups of students will experience the difficulty of arguing for a certain model, as each group will have to argue for a different model. Additionally, they get introduced to different perspectives on disability. Furthermore, the activity of looking for relevant and high quality articles, students are prepared for their final paper.
Next to reading texts and discussing point of views students will be prepared for writing their final paper by presenting a research question that will be discussed and guided by the teacher.
Further input consits on discussions about ongoing research in a research project by the University of Vienna.
