Aims, contents and method of the course

The lecture examines theories of school as a central social institution. School is defined and theorized in different ways depending on the prevailing perspectives, historical genesis and development, locus of interest, and normative orientation. The lecture introduces an overview and examines selected examples of school theories, and discusses their scope and implications.
The lecture provides the theoretical basis for the proseminar in Module 8: „Paradigmatische und aktuelle Beispiele für einschlägige Forschung“
