Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The aim of this research internship is to give students the opportunity to deepen their knowledge of and conduct research in key areas in educational theory and the epistemology of educational research. The research internship is closely linked with the BM4 lectures on developments and debates in educational theory and research (1900-present). Students acquire experience in teaching fundamental aspects of the history and philosophy of education as a scientific discipline and develop a small research project in close connection with the contents of the course (e.g., history of statistics, test psychology, pragmatism, critical theory and critical pedagogy, phenomenological research, poststructuralism). Additionally, the seminar is open for the supervision of research internships as detailed in the study program and students can do an internship in one of the research units of the Department of Education. In this case, students should contact the head of the research unit where they would like to do an internship (https://bildungswissenschaft.univie.ac.at/en/research/research-units/). In addition to the individual research internship, students participate in text seminars and collective reflection on the internship. Students receive individual supervision in relation to the topic of their research and feedback on their paper.

In sum, three types of internships can be done within this course:
1) Research internship in one of the research units of the department;
2) Research internship under the supervision of the course coordinator, with special focus on research;
3) Research internship under the supervision of the course coordinator, with additional duties at the department (e.g., student representative, tutor, mentor).
