Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
This course will explore the reasons and ways that different variations of the 'other' have been created and portrayed for our modern education systems (according to, e.g., nations/cultures, language, religion…). We will discuss theories behind 'othering' and 'us'/'other' identity formation (as well as research that has explored the topic); look at policies and curricula that frame the 'other', also in relation to the 'self'; and find and analyze real examples in various educational publications (e.g., textbooks, images) from the late 19th century until today.
