Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Not only with Hegel's theory of recognition and Mead's social philosophy of symbolically mediated consciousness it is hardly disputed in psychoanalysis that a "core self" (Daniel Stern) first and foremost is formed by constitutive experiences with significant others. But what conditions does this imply? On one hand, it is the dependence of early experiences of others for development, so the subject status of the people, particularly highlighted by the structural psychoanalysis. On the other hand, modern developmental psychology speaks of a "competent infant" (Dornes) 'using' the other in affective mirroring processes to form coherent representations of himself and his environment and thus learns to "mentalize" (Fonagy et al).
Central concern of the proseminar is to explore these paradoxical acting positions using a transdisciplinary theorybased access and thus also enter philosophical levels of recognition. In this case the question will be discussed to what extent the influence of the personal and symbolic Other (Lacan) may be relevant for regular or irregular processes of development.
