Lernziel des Modul ÖGS I - E1: Die Studierenden überblicken den Stand der Gebärdensprachforschung und haben Kenntnisse über die strukturellen und grammatikalischen Besonderheiten der Familie der Gebärdensprachen.

Das EC ÖGS I besteht im WS aus drei verpflichtenden LV:
- Sprachkurs (Modul ÖGS I - E2b)
- Modul ÖGS I - E1: Sprachwissenschaftliche Grundlagen von Gebärdensprachen und
- Modul ÖGS I - E2a: Politik, Kultur und Geschichte der Gehörlosengemeinschaft, Ethik im Umgang mit hörbehinderten Menschen).
Das EC kann nicht absolviert werden, wenn eine der 3 LV nicht oder nur unregelmäßig besucht wird.
