200005 PS Introductory Seminar: Cognitive Foundations of Experience and Behaviour (2016S)

Continuous assessment of course work

The seminar gives a theoretical and applied introduction to scientific literature from the field of cognitive psychology. Students are to learn the basics of scientific reading, writing and presenting. After some input by the lecturer, students will present and discuss recent topics of cognitive psychology. These topics include:
- priming and manipulation of behaviour
- attentional phenomena
- visual search
- films and videogames
- mindwandering
- eye movements and attention

Aims, contents and method of the course

- Training of basic academic skills, such as searching for literature, making citations, designing experiments, presenting results etc.
- To train the ability to critically assess research articles
- The integration of theoretical knowledge with practical academic skills
- To provide an overview of current topics in the fields of perceptual and cognitive psychology
