Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

In this Proseminar, students will read and critically discuss literature (book chapters and journal articles in English language) on selected topics within the field of Cognitive-Affective Neuroscience. The main topics will include hypnosis, placebo effects, empathy and social learning. Another focus will be on the methods of Neuroscience, especially Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI).

Assessment and permitted materials

- All students have to read the assigned literature before each lecture and prepare questions on it. This will be assessed via students’ active participation in group discussions with the lecturer aimed at understanding and critically evaluating the content of each text (decides 30% of the overall grade).
- Oral presentation and leading a discussion (30% of overall grade)
- Active participation in discussions during lectures and on Moodle (40% of overall grade)

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Good language skills in English and German. Attendance on site is compulsory; students may be absent for no more than two lectures.
