Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Preliminary information on the method of holding the LV:
The course will be held on site, in English.
The aim of this course is to provide an insight into the field of social neuroscience through active engagement with scientific literature. We aim to provide you with a better understanding of the biological processes underlying human social behavior.
Topics:
- Empathy
- Group Perception & Emotion
- Prosocial behavior
- Social Media
- Scarcity and Social Cognition
- Stress and Cognition
- Social Isolation & Loneliness
- Climate change/Environmental neuroscience

Method:
This course consists of one preparatory session, dates for group presentations, and two wrap-up sessions. Participants will work in small groups on a project throughout the semester. The results of these projects will be presented both at a joint group presentation. An essential element of the course are the discussions following the presentations. In addition to the own project work, at least one contribution to other project topics should be written on the teaching platform Moodle. As part of the post-processing of the project presentations, there will be a small test that summarizes the core content of the project topics.

Assessment and permitted materials

- Group presentation (50%, individual contributions will be evaluated separately)
- Discussion contributions to other project topics and active participation (25%)
- Final test (25%)

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Continuous attendance in the sessions is absolutely necessary (a maximum of one missed block appointment or 2 single appointment as a basis for a positive assessment).
The total sum of the partial performances results in the seminar grade. From 60% the seminar is positively completed, the remaining grades result from 10%-steps.
