Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The content of this seminar is based on the literature of self-compassion, mindfulness, and affective touching (of the self and from others) and their effects of stress coping and well-being.

The specialized literature seminar has the following topics:
- Active examination of a specific research topic
- Literature research/use of databases or search engines
- Intervention design
- Adequate formulation of research questions and hypotheses
- Planning a study and/or writing up project plans
- To go through (peer) feedback loops

Important: In the following semester (SoSe 25), a Bachelor's thesis is to be written according to the preliminary work in the specialized literature seminar.

The overarching theme of this course is positive psychology with a strong focus on interventions from contemplative sciences including self-compassion, mindfulness, affective (self-)touching, and other mind-body interventions. Special focus is on the topics: 1) effectiveness research of mind-body interventions and their effects on stress or well-being, 2) basic and applied research on self-compassion 3) current directions in mindfulness research.

The goal is that by the end of the semester each student will have a concept for a project to write their bachelor thesis about. These papers can be empirical studies, systematic reviews, or meta-analyses. The above-mentioned topics are the framework within which the course will move thematically, but feel free to make suggestions (depending on the area of interest) for research questions that go beyond these topics.

Previous students have praised the atmosphere of the seminar, describing it as motivating, informative, and engaging. The quality of the seminar strongly depends on the motivation and engagement of all particpants. Informally, I view this seminar (and the subsequent Bachelor Thesis seminar) as a preparation for a PhD in psychology (don't worry if that isn't your goal). I look forward to this year's iteration.
