Aims, contents and method of the course
What is the relationship between gender and religion? How is masculinity and femininity created and who are the male and female main protagonists? What attitudes are typical for a male or female human being and which of these attitudes are 'good' or 'evil' ? What does religion expect from women and men and what do they expect from their religion? A round trip through the world religions including atheism.
Assessment and permitted materials
Presentation, engagement, assignment
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
During the seminar the main world religions will be analyzed (literature and empirical analyses) according to their gender constructions, different gendered conotations will be worked out and critically discussed according to the reproduction of gender differences.
Examination topics
Student work out in small teams a presentation on the gender topics of a certain religion. In addition they have to provide the class with relevant texts for an overall discussion.
