Aims, contents and method of the course
This VU is designed to facilitate students' entry into TEWA and later a master's thesis in the field of motivational psychology by providing a basic understanding of the theoretical concepts, issues, and methods of motivational psychology.Course topics include conditions and processes of self-control, effort mobilization and goal striving, effects of implicit theories on behavior and experience in the context of education and environmental behavior.The content will be presented and discussed on the basis of lectures, elaborated and developed in independent reading, and group work.Students will learn to develop their own questions on the background of current research and to outline possible research designs.
Assessment and permitted materials
The work to be graded is done in groups. For each of the four topics the groups think about a question and a possible study design and describe it on 2-3 pages (proposal).Each group gives a plenary presentation once (20min presentation & 20min discussion).
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
The grade will be composed of 40% presentation and 60% all four exposés.
This course requires regular, active participation in class and in the group meeting with the instructor (80% minimum attendance). Active participation, three accepted exposés, and one presentation are necessary prerequisites (i.e., failure to meet them will result in a failing grade).
