Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

On TUESDAYS, different researchers of cognitive sciences and neurosciences of the universities and research institutions in the greater area of Vienna present their research areas and approaches. The different presentations are thematically unconnected to one another, but offer a view of the different possibilities of potentially doing research for the master thesis in cognitive psychology and neurosciences in Vienna. The regular attendance during these talks is required. In addition to this, there are two units of the seminar that accompany the lecture, one at the start of the semester, during which the structure of the course is explained in more detail, and one at the end (where your feedback is discussed).
Furthermore, your course work will otherwise require mostly written summaries. At three points during the semester, you have to hand in summaries of the talks that you heard. All these summaries will contribute to your grades and at least some of these will get detailed feedback by us.
The talks are also part of the MEi:CogSci Cognitive Science Lecture Series, where you can also find further information on the presenters and contents of the talks. Please note, however, that the required course work and grading for this course is NOT the same as in the MEi:CogSci Cognitive Science Lecture Series.

Assessment and permitted materials

home work/term papers (three assignments altogether), regular active participation in the lectures, participation in psychological experiments

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The term papers will receive individual grades. Each of the term papers needs to be at least graded with a D (4.0, genügend) to successfully pass. Also, each of the term papers needs to be handed in in time. The exact deadlines for the submissions of the term papers will be announced via Moodle. Finally, as term papers require summaries of presentations, your regular participation at the talks on Tuesday evenings is required.
