Aims, contents and method of the course

Aim and content:
The course will provide theoretical and practical foundations for the neuropsychological assessment of patients with acquired brain injury (e.g. stroke). Neuropsychological dysfunctions after brain injury seldom appear isolated. Therefore conducting diagnostics can be challenging, especially with respect to standardized application. In the course we will recap neuropsychological disorders after brain damage, psychometric properties of tests and basic knowledge of neuropsychological disorders after brain injury. We also will talk about ethical aspects. The seminar will then focus on neuropsychological assessments for patients with acquired brain damage. Students will get to know typical neuropsychological assessments and reflect on challenges with respect to applying the tests and interpreting test results.

Methods:
Frontal lectures, clinical case discussions and students presentations/role plays of the tests used to assess neuropsychological functions.

Assessment and permitted materials

Student presentations will be evaluated according to clarity and precision of the content.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Active participation is required with max missing 2 sessions.
