Aims, contents and method of the course

Class schedule:

9/March: (Forster) Basic information about the course: structure and evaluation Reading and commenting a paper in class.

16/March, 06/April, 13/April: (Forster) Experimental design and planning

20/April, 27/April, 04/May: (Lamm) Social Neuroscience

11/May, 18/May, 25/May: (Gerger) Experimental aesthetics

01/June, 08/June, 15/June: (Eisenegger) Psychopharmacology/Neuroeconomics

22/June: Concluding Session

Assessment and permitted materials

The final grade will be based on:

a) Weekly quiz (topics from last unit) -- 35%

b) Active participation -- 20%

c) Proposal -- 45%

At the end of the semester each student will have to hand in a written proposal for an experiment.
-Length: maximum 3 pages

-Structure: Introduction, Aims, Hypotheses, Materials and Methods, Expected results, Conclusion.

-Topic: chosen by each student or based on one of the course's topics

-Language: EN or DE;

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The main aim of this course is to provide the basic conceptual foundations that support the methods and techniques used in research in cognitive psychology and neuroscience. These issues will be explored within the fields of Empirical Aesthetics, Psychopharmacology and Social Neuroscience.

Examination topics

Weekly quiz: The questions will be based on the content of last week's unit. Slides of the units will be posted in moodle after the unit.
