Aims, contents and method of the course

In this two-semester seminar (WS 2024/25 & SS 2025), an in-depth theoretical and empirical examination of a current topic area of work and organizational psychology or occupational health psychology takes place, especially with regard to stress management in the workplace. By actively engaging in all phases of the research process, students should become familiar with research in work and organizational psychology and thus be prepared for writing their Master's thesis. This includes the literature search and the selection and preparation of literature, the guided development of a research question and the derivation and registration of hypotheses, the planning and implementation of an empirical study as well as the evaluation of the collected data and the scientific presentation of the results.
In the first semester (WS 2024/25), theoretical content is elaborated in depth. Literature is read critically. A proposal or preregistration/registered report is prepared and a planning presentation is given.
In the second semester (SS 2025), empirical studies are carried out and evaluated, building on the theoretical foundations previously developed. The results will be presented at the end of the semester (lectures, poster presentation).

Assessment and permitted materials

WS 2024/25:
Work on the tasks for the respective sessions, preparation of a scientific proposal or pre-registration/registered report in each small group
SS 2025:
Work on the tasks for the respective sessions, preparation of a final scientific report in each small group and a scientific poster in each small group

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

WS 2024/25:
Active participation in the seminar (25 %) and the proposal or preregistration/registered report in each small group (75 %) are graded
SS 2025:
Active participation in the seminar (25 %), the scientific poster (25 %, small group output) and the final scientific report (50 %, small group output)

Examination topics

Obtaining an overview of the relevant part of the scientific literature in order to derive research questions and hypotheses; designing, planning and conducting an empirical study; processing and analyzing the collected data; presenting the results
