Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

In this course, students are introduced to an important field of early childhood diagnostics and will gain in-depth insights into a paediatric developmental test: the Bayley Scales of Infant and Toddler Development (Bayley, 2006). The Bayley Scales measure the cognitive, motor and language development of infants and are used in many institutions, hospitals and even in private practice for the diagnosis of infants’ and toddlers’ development. Students will acquire the skills to identify, systematically observe and test specific competences and behaviour of infants and toddlers, as they will have the opportunity to also apply these procedures and get practical training. Possible future collaborations with the Research Unit of Developmental Psychology (Faculty of Psychology) will be facilitated (in the form of an internship or master’s thesis).

This seminar will require personal attendance, with respect to current health and safety measures in place.
In case of personal attendance restrictions, the seminar will be held in a hybrid format: smaller groups will alternate attendance at the faculty and sessions will be streamed online for the other groups. In case personal attendance will not be possible, student participation will be ensured by joint digital sessions with lecturers during the seminar appointments. This will be complemented with student group work online (student video presentations and discussions in small groups).

Please note that the preparation of a reflection report and other student assignments will be required in all possible attendance formats, with the workload adjusted.
