Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

In this course, students are introduced to an important field of early childhood diagnostics and will gain in-depth insights into a pediatric developmental test: the Bayley Scales of Infant and Toddler Development (Bayley, 2006). The Bayley Scales measure the cognitive, motor and language development of infants and are used in many institutions, hospitals and even in private practice for the diagnosis of infants’ and toddlers’ development. Students will acquire the skills to identify, systematically observe and test specific competences and behaviour of infants and toddlers, as they will have the opportunity to also apply these procedures and get practical training. Possible future collaborations with the Research Unit of Developmental Psychology (Faculty of Psychology) will be facilitated (in the form of an internship or master’s thesis).

Bonus system
For the final seminar session, students will have the opportunity to practice parts of the Bayley scales with babies. Therefore, students who can contribute to organising this, will receive a bonus point in accordance with the bonus point system.
