Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
In this course, students are introduced to an important field of early childhood diagnostics and will gain in-depth insights into a paediatric developmental test: the Bayley Scales of Infant and Toddler Development (Bayley, 2006). The Bayley Scales measure the cognitive, motor and language development of infants and are used in many institutions, hospitals and even in private practice for the diagnosis of infants’ and toddlers’ development.Students will acquire the skills to identify, systematically observe and test specific competences and behaviour of infants and toddlers, as they will have the opportunity to also apply these procedures and get practical training (e.g. with other student participants). Possible future collaborations with the Research Unit of Developmental Psychology (Faculty of Psychology) will be facilitated (in the form of an internship or master’s thesis). This seminar will require attendance at all sessions (in person except specific cases, see above).Student participation will be ensured by interactive sessions with the lecturers during the seminar appointments. This will be complemented with student group work (student video presentations and discussions in small group). Please note that the preparation of a reflection report and other student assignments will be required in all attendance formats.
