Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

To introduce implementation science and best practices as they relate to developing, using, and scaling up best practices in health and education. Topics will be addressed through the lens of active implementation frameworks with a focus on the development of effective and usable innovations, use of implementation best practices; and policy formation and systems change to create supportive environments for effective innovations.

Assessment and permitted materials

Assessments will be based on the following:
Mandatory class attendance
Class participation and discussion (30%)
Completion of activities and peer presentations (35%)
Critical analyses of program and research materials (35%)

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The objectives of this course are as follows:
To learn the history and development of implementation science
To increase understanding of evidence-based implementation practices that will support wider use of evidence-based interventions and practices in educational and health context
To learn and begin to apply active implementation frameworks to the development of programs and practices and wide scale adoption of such programs
To understand the importance and types of fidelity assessment processes for both research and practice.
To explore the implications of implementation science related to changes in practice, organizational contexts, and systems change.

Examination topics

Students will achieve course objectives by:
Completing assignments in class or prepared at home; working in small groups or individually during and outside of class. Knowledge, competencies and expertise are developed through discussions, small group activities in class, critical analyses, brief presentations to peers, peer-to-peer feedback, assignments to be completed on the Moodle platform, etc.

Students are expected to use on-line materials and tools, research articles, and examples from health, education, or other human services to complete assignments and presentations.
