Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Investigating positive social interactions in psychology and cognitive neuroscience

In this seminar, we will focus on different types of positive social interactions: we will research and discuss topics such as laughter, synchrony, bonding and joint action. Psychological research has historically focussed mainly on “negative” topics such as negative emotions and psychopathology, while neglecting positive interactions and positive emotions. However, positive social interactions and shared positive emotions play an important role in human life, strongly influencing life quality and general health. In this course, the students will get acquainted with the new literature and open questions on these research topics. The course will tackle the study of positive interactions from a behavioural, physiological and neural perspective.

The main goal of this Seminar is to acquire the necessary abilities to plan and conduct a research project. This semester mainly focusses on the first steps, that is:
− How to conduct a critical literature research and to formulate meaningful research questions.
− How to develop a study design, including choice of methods and sample, and feasibility analysis
− Finally, how to prepare an exposé including ethical aspects.
