Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Objectives:

1. What is the basic principle of statistical evaluation?
2. Mention of the most common statistical faults.3. Proposal
3. Proposal of a comprehensive empirical research scheme including
necessary variable classification.
4. Diskussion of mandatory requirements for causal analyses in empirical
systems.
5. Testing and simulation of verbally (propositional) formulated
(causal) hypotheses.
6. The computer program RELAN Beta 1.0 and its evaluation options.
Contents: Empirical knowledge acquisition; weaknesses of statistical
methodology; propositional logic and statistics; RELAN research logic
and overview of the RELAN programme; relation-analytical evaluation
examples from various fields of psychology.
Method: Frontal teaching with many demonstrations and instructed
exercises.

The main objectives of the lecture are the intended promotion of a more
comprehensive conception of the empirical research process, the striving
for a multivariate and multifunctional extension of statistical
analyses and the stimulation of "real" causal analyses in which the
temporal and logical prerequisites of the empirical variables are taken
into account

Assessment and permitted materials

Individual original writen statements and contributions to discussions on methodological problems.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Attendance (90%) and at least 1-3 relevant statements.

Examination topics

Knowledge of relation analysis (RELAN) and its possible applications.
