Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The course consists of two parts: 1.) Introduction to basic topics in general psychology, and fundamental aspects of scientific work such as reviewing literature, conducting research, and communicating findings to others. 2.) Readings, presentations, and subsequent discussions of various empirical papers.

Assessment and permitted materials

Evaluation is based on: active participation in discussions; presentation; and final exam.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The aims of the course are the following: 1.) To introduce students to the fundamental and practical aspects of scientific work. Students will acquire an understanding of the research process, from generating a research question, conducting a literature review, designing experiments, collecting data, analyzing data, and communicating findings to the scientific community. 2.) To teach students how to properly evaluate the quality of scientific manuscripts. 3.) To critically present and discuss the contents of a scientific manuscript.

Examination topics

Overview lectures by the instructor during the first part of the course, and group presentations and discussions during the second part of the course. Please note that all aspects of this course will be conducted in English including lectures, presentations, discussions, and exams.
