Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This "Forschungspraktikum" will cover both winter and summer term. This is needed to allow for enough time for the development and repeated discussion of own empirical research projects. The initial weeks will focus on the "do's and don'ts" of research design in political science, in general. We will study good and bad examples and abstract principles of research design, before later going into ideas for prospective own research in the field of European integration (in particular, MA or doctoral theses).

Students interested in researching all aspects of European integration are welcome. This is understood in a wide sense, covering
- the bottom-up shifting of competences,
- the background to deadlock and breakthrough in EU decision-making, and finally
- the top-down impact of European integration in the member states and beyond ("Europeanization").

Assessment and permitted materials

Regular and active participation throughout both semesters, development and iterative presentation of own research design ideas, in-depth feedback for colleagues, analyses and summaries of relevant literature.
