Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This seminar introduces statistical data analysis using Stata. It is a hands-on course in using quantiative methods in political science. The participation in Markus Wagner's lecutre "BAK 4.2: VO Quantitative Methoden der empirischen Sozialforschung" (210012) is strongly recommended.

Assessment and permitted materials

Successful completion of the course requires:

- Attendance (10 %)

- Completion of 4 assignments (je 10 %)

- Research paper (50 %)

The course cannnot be passed by submitting the research paper only.

Attendance is compulsory. Students may miss a maximum of 2 sessions. If students miss more than two session, the course cannot be successfully completed. Note that students who frequently show up late or leave early risk to be recorded as missing.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The aim of the seminar is to introduce basic knowledge and skills in computer-assisted data analysis using Stata as well as the application of simple quantitative methods. Please note that the course is held in English!

Examination topics

The course is planned as a hands-on seminar with short theoretical introduction of the main concepts and hands-on exercises. Students are asked to complete weekly assignments and to submit a short research paper.
