Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The literature course gives - in coordination with the lecture "Introduction to International Politics" - an overview of the main concepts, methods, topics and theories of international politics.
The specific thematic focus of the course will be the debate of contemporary approaches in conflict analysis, in particular the concept of "fragility" and "fragile states", as well as the interrelated concepts and concrete processes of intervention therein. The current discourses und processes on political and policy level in the context of "security and development" and their strategic and operative implications within the OECD-countries (like "Whole-of-Government"- and "Whole-of-Nation"-Approaches) will be discussed along with the impacts and implications of such interventions in the so called "target regions".
THE PART OF THE THEMATIC FOCUS OF THE COURSE (4 LECTURES) WILL BE HELD MAINLY IN ENGLISH.

Assessment and permitted materials

* written exercises
* written paper in German or English (10.000 characters, to be written during the course)
* presentations (individual and teamwork), participation in discussions
* attendance (at least 10 of 12 times)

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

* Deepened Discussion of the topics of the lecture "Introduction to International Politics"
* Discussion of main therories in conflict analysis, fragility and development policy
* Introduction to the specific methods and theories of International Politics

Examination topics
