The second part of the seminar focuses on institutions and mechanisms of East Asian regionalism (ASEAN / ASEM / APEC / CSCAP...). Apart from political integration, issues of economic and monetary integration / cooperation; security and regional crisis management; free trade agreements will also be referred to.
The seminar concludes with a comparison between European and East Asian regionalism. This includes the institutional framework of the EU and ASEAN; the role of internal and external players in Europe and Asia; monetary integration and the construction of a common market (launching of the EU's common currency and the Asian Chiang Mai Initiative).
