Aims, contents and method of the course

The seminar will focus on various forms of domestic violence and the reasons for it:
reasons for and forms of violence against women and against children;
women's movement and the fight of women against domestic violence;
Austrian legislation against domestic violence;
Legislation in other European countries;
Intervention programs against male violence;
Violence against children;
Harmful traditional practices.
Masculinity and violence;

Assessment and permitted materials

presence, active co-operation, oral (handout) and written presentation of a chosen subject

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

sensibilisation for domestic violenc
political-scientific understanding of violence, legislation, lobbying

Examination topics

after a short input with regard to domestic violence by the lecturer the students will read and discuss basic texts. They will also give short oral as well as written presentations.
